Shoot or Die
Yes that’s a real gun. This image was part of a photo shoot of mine that was inspired by the movie Sexy Beast. In order to give the shot grain and atmosphere, cigarettes burned freely. The downside to this was that no windows could be opened to cool the room down from the heat produced by my light set. Sweaty and barely able to breath, it was a quick shoot that produced some killer shots.
Film Flower
I welcome happy accidents. I was headed to the dark room when it began pouring rain. A broken umbrella and a long run latter, shelter was in sight. Almost to the dry indoors, I tripped. My film container smashed into the ground and out went the film into a puddle. I proceeded to develop the negatives. After developing some photos in the dark room, I was not happy. Instead of abandoning the negatives, I got creative. I got out my scissors and began to shape out abstract forms with my negatives and contact sheets. As the first sheets revealed themselves from the blank pages they where imaged on, the unique imagery I was producing was unlike anything I had ever thought to capture with the lenses of my camera.

Dock Rot But Not Forgotten
Growing up in Oregon, I was never a half days drive or less away from the ocean beaches. I enjoyed visiting them but never understood how majestic they where until I moved away. When I visit Oregon, there are two things I put on my list to do. The first is to stop at McMenamins Brew Pub for beers and a burger. The Second is the ocean. Once, the ocean was just a place to drink, freeze in the water, and get sand stuck in between my toes. It is now a reminder, an understanding, and beauty that can not be described in a short paragraph. The image of a forgotten dock structure is only a taste of the texture, atmosphere, and life that can be experienced up and down the Pacific Ocean beaches of the Northwest.
Typographic Context
Type is a visual tool used to inform. If it fails to communicate, does it detract from the visual clarity of the image it is presented with? Does the image have to visually communicate what the text can not?
Burned For Time
New technology is supposed to make things quicker and easier. Most of the time it makes things longer and more complicated. With ease comes a need to innovate. Does all this information cloud the vision that is in front of our eyes? Can we ever forget about technology once we have let it invade our lives? This is a snapshot of some animated video art I experimented with while asking these questions. I ended up using it as animated menu for one of my Winter 04 portfolio DVDs.
Once Upon A Ripple
This digital matte painting was composited with only stock and personal photos. 20 images where used to make up the initial composite. From there many layers of post paint and color corrections where made before the image was finalized.
Quiet Murk
When you don’t have access to shoot an exotic location, photoshop your own. Quiet Murk is a composite of about 16 different elements. I used 3D renderings of fog, water, trees, and birds in order to give the static composite movement and life.
Piano Basics
Being able to read music and produce melody from the piano is a tough craft to master. When I was young, I played in rehearsals and studied the art of piano. Today, when I use digital keyboards, music software, or am analyzing the effect audio plays on an individuals experience, the lessons I learned from playing piano still resinate with me. More a novice to than a master, I plan to one day continue playing piano. Piano Basics is an educational poster I illustrated. The image communicates two fundamentals. First it shows where an individual should place their hands and fingers in order to play from Middle C. Second It depicts how the keys will be displayed on a sheet of music that the individual can read to play a melody.
Sketches
The cottage was a sketch I made as a placeholder tile, while experimenting with the 2D Torque Engine. Inspired by the Team Fortress 2 character creation, I illustrated the female character by beginning with a silhouette. I then added color, depth, and texture until the final rendering was realized.
Twisted TV
In my Digital Video and Audio class at the University of Oregon, I proposed a television channel called Twisted TV. I created two videos to show what type of content the channel would provide. The first was a news segment that provided information on daily twisted tales. The second was a commercial to promote the channel. The advertisement featured my friend Jared flipping through channels until he settles on Twisted TV. Suddenly the Twisted TV logo transforms into a monster that burst through the screen to attack Jared.
